Data Care at My Desk

Privacy Notice

When you write to my desk asking for a room recommendation or a stay enquiry, you trust me with a few personal details. I take that trust seriously. This privacy notice explains how your information is handled under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Information Collected at My Desk

When you use the form to write to my desk, I collect only what is strictly necessary to answer your enquiry: your name, email address, preferred stay dates, number of sleepers, and the specific house you wish to visit (such as Crown Melbourne or Wrest Point). I do not collect payment card details, bank details, or sensitive personal identifiers.

If you email me directly, I retain that message solely to help answer your questions about room configurations, quiet floors, or breakfast venues. I do not create secret user profiles or combine your details with external data broker lists.

Measurement Tools and Google Tag Manager

To keep this site functioning smoothly and understand which stay guides prove useful to readers comparing venues on the stay table, I use Google Tag Manager to deploy basic web measurement tools. These tools collect anonymised technical indicators, including your web browser type, device category, referral site, and approximate regional location.

No individual identities are attached to these analytics records. You can block or delete cookies through your web browser preferences at any time without restricting your access to any review or comparison page on this site.

Storage, Security, and Data Retention

Information sent to my desk is stored on secure electronic systems protected by restricted administrative access and reasonable security protocols. These measures guard against loss, unauthorised access, modification, or improper disclosure.

Personal details are kept only for as long as needed to process your enquiry or forward a booking request to a partner house. Once an enquiry is resolved and no longer required for support or administrative record-keeping, email threads and form records are safely deleted or permanently anonymised.

Disclosure to Hotels and Partners

I do not sell, trade, or rent personal information to marketing agencies. When you ask me to forward an enquiry to a property—such as Reef Hotel Casino in Cairns or Mindil Beach in Darwin—I share your contact details and stay preferences directly with that venue or its appointed booking partner so they can process your request.

Beyond completing your requested stay enquiry or complying with Commonwealth and State legal requirements, your data remains strictly between my desk and the intended house.

Accessing Your Data and Contacting My Desk

Under Australian Privacy Principles 12 and 13, you have the right to request access to the personal information held about you, and to request corrections if any detail is inaccurate or out of date. If you wish to inspect stored information, update your records, or request that your contact details be removed from my desk logs, please write directly to the editor email address provided on the site.

You can read more about how this independent inspection project operates on the about page or review commercial practices on how this site earns.
